This saying is commonly used by football coaches in order to describe the different ways their players can score points in a football game. For example, a wide receiver may be given a pass and told to run down the field and score a touchdown. A running back may be asked to make a long run and score a touchdown. A quarterback might be told to throw a pass and if he can’t complete it, he is not allowed to run with the ball.
